Are you guys aware that the knowledge base part of the site is not working?
I've been trying to get the instructions for integrating HAI and Russound Sphere as discussed in this forum http://www.worthingtondistribution.com/cgi-bin/solutions/yabb2/YaBB.pl?virboard=news;num=1270821137 , but so far no go.

Can anyone send me the procedure directly to Mario at hthnm.com ?

Thanks,
Mario

I'm sorry you're having issues.
Furthermore, I'm sorry I can't offer any solutions, other than to say that I've used PEP1 and all versions of PEP2 on XP, Vista 32 beta, Vista 32 and Win 7 (both 64 & 32).
I only had one issue with logitech driver conflict.

If I may suggest:
1. Try it on another machine. Be it client's, your kid's or friends.

If it works, than you know it's not the pronto.
If it doesn't, than more than likely it is a pronto.

2. As sucky as it sounds, reinstall the whole OS and install PEP first and get it working, and then start installing the other stuff and see what breaks it.

Just my 2 cents.
Mario

Unfortunately it sounds as if you have done all of the correct steps. One thing not mentioned but that I am certain you did is to test the meter. Simply put it on your power source and make certain it is reading around 12VDC. Assuming you did that and that you are using a meter as described below, it sounds as if the probe is damaged. Preferred Technologies (CarTell) requests that all repair and warranty cases contact them directly 800-223-4743.

The bigger question is, "why". CarTell has an outstanding reputation for product design. I have lived with one for over 10 years without incident (I know, Murphy's law, and I just broke it!). The most likely answer is, "it just happens." Anything electronic can always fail; however, there are a couple of things I would double check just to be on the safe side. First, was the HAI damaged? Use a resistor to see if the zone still swings. If it does then that is a very good thing and the surge protection in the HAI board may have saved it. If the CarTell was connected in the same manner as our drawing then triple check the earth ground on the HAI. It should be tied into the common ground for the house. There should only be one ground point for the house (it can be 2 stakes if they are bonded). If there is only one ground point then I would probably call this one just bad luck.

Instructions for anyone reading this thread in the future:

BENCH TESTING AND FIELD TESTING THE CP-2
Make all measurements only with a digital multimeter with 10 MEG ohm or more input resistance. An analog VOM will not work for this test. With the power off, connect the negative side of the digital volt meter to the braided SHIELD wire and positive side of the meter to the WHITE wire (DATALINE). When the CP-2 is powered, the meter should read less than .100 VDC for a period of about 2 seconds; then it should read between 4.5 VDC and 5.5 VDC for about 4 seconds. It should then return to 0 voltage.

I've been using the app or about a week now and am very impressed with how responsive and intuitive the interface is. The developer has been very willing to listen to my feedback and incorporate some nice functional enhancements.

One of the features that I most appreciate is the inclusion of a Favorites Panel where you can add individual elements to the screen for the most used functions. I've got mine narrowed down to the three thermostats, couple of audio zones, handful of sensors, buttons, and lights that I use 90% of the time. It's a very elegant way to have a semi-custom screen that is tailored to how we use the system.

It's nice to have some alternate options for interface and I expect that this app could be enhanced down the road with custom skins, etc. now that the framework and backend control/feedback is solid.

Since I don't need 255 links.
I started by assigning a link to every unit. So Link 20 is also unit 20.
So ANY switch can control any other via links.

I also use the off switch press to trigger a second unit.

For instance:
I turn on the bathroom light, the fan recognizes the bathroom light link and switches on.
I set the bathroom light switch to local control and also link transmit.
So when I turn it off the local load (light goes off), and it also sends a link "Bath Fan Delay".
So the fan turns "on" again, this time for a timed period of 10 minutes, then shuts off on its own.

I use the remaining links as scenes, etc.

I would like to see if there is much interest with the public for SMS and or email notification of events on an HAI Omni IIe or PRO II system.

I have successfully created a PC program in conjunction with HAI events, messages and buttons for instead of telephone recordings, the user would receive an SMS message (typically within 10-20 seconds of event). NOTE: SMS and EMAIL are interchangeable!!!

I have tested it for several months now and find it to be very reliable. Its weaknesses are primarily the reliability of the hosting computer and the cellular providers the user(s) have.

With the ability of serial to IP over WAN (RS232 to Ethernet adapter) one could theoretically host this as a service and use 1 PC do service many HAI panels. Food for thought..

Looking for feedback or questions.... Thanks.
I will soon be moving from my OPII equippped home to the opposite in terms of automation. My current home, which I had acccess to during construction has wired sensors in every window, up and down stairs, every door, driveway, sprinkler, garage, you name it, cat 5 and RG6. Light switches are wired ALC.

I will be moving into an existing house that at best has a few runs of RG6, and some cat 5 for telephone. There is also a large 1500 sq ft garage, and a granny unit house. Nothing has any form of security, or pre wire for it.

What are the best wireless solutions on the market today? I would like to stick with HAI OPII as it has for the most part worked well, and I understand the programming.

I would like to start with basic security and then go from there, including video.

Seriously? I have a hard time believing that. Are you saying HAI runs an open relay mail server? If so, most customers won't receive the notifications because the server will get flagged by their ISP spam filters. Not to mention it would cause all kinds of delivery issues for HAI employees if their mail is sent from the same IP address. It's not so simple anymore to put a "from" address on the message and send it from a server that is non-authoritative for the domain in the "from".

Are you sure that by leaving the SMTP server empty that its not just using localhost (your computer) to send the message?

edit: I just checked Snap-Link and you cannot leave the server empty and save it.

Perhaps I am missing something here, but it just is not that difficult to create a program line for each.

I have an OPII and the cababilty to verbally announce each zone change in status is a huge feature. I have it announce over house audio most of the time. It gives a sense of security to my wife when I am not at home.

I do have a "button" that can be used to turn these announcements off for 12 hours and then they restore. Just takes a conditional in each program line to test for flag.

Admittedly I don't make a living doing this stuff, it is a hobby.

I concur with Serky that you can set a virtual endless number of irrigation parameters with the OPII programming. As to why I went with a Rain8 versus just using the OPII outputs, there were a few reasons. First, I was warned about the possibility of lightning strikes when running wire outside the house (even underground I was told). The Rain8 isolates the irrigation controller from the OPII to some degree so there was that issue. Also, when I originally got the Rain8 I did intend to use it for the subroutine control. Ultimately though I found that I wanted more than the two programs that can be stored in the Rain8. Finally, I am able to control the zones outside of the OPII if I would like by using any X-10 transmitter. If I was using relays from the OPII I would always have to use the OPII to run zones individually. Oh, I also prefer the programming within the OPII to programming the Rain8. It is more intuitive to me and as I eluded to above and Serky mentioned, much more robust. There are probably other options that could work for me, however, I find the combination of the Rain8 and the OPII to do the job just fine.

Matt
